Sally Watson wins place in US Open

Two-times Curtis Cup player Sally Watson this week won a United States Women’s Open championship qualifier at Broadmoor Golf Club, Colorado.

With only two places available in the major at Sebonack Golf Club, Southampton, New York State, Watson headed a field of 51 players with scores of 72-76 for 148 in testing conditions. It will be her third appearance in a women’s major.

Watson Won Sectional Qualifier for U.S. Women’s Open

Senior Sally Watson will turn professional before the tournament begins

Stanford’s Sally Watson fired a four-over-par 148 to secure a spot at the U.S. Women’s Open and clinch the sectional qualifier at The Broadmoor’s par-71, 6,681-yard West Course.

Watson, like teammate Mariah Stackhouse, was the low medalist in one of 20 qualifiers conducted by the U.S. Golf Association. Players who qualify will compete at the U.S. Women’s Open, to be played on the Sebonack Golf Course in Southampton, N.Y., on June 27-30.

Senior golfer learned from the best at Stanford

Sally Watson knew her life had changed during her first week at Stanford. The freshman from Earlsferry, Scotland, played golf with former U.S. secretary of states George Shultz and Condoleezza Rice at Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach.

“That was a pretty incredible way to start off my Stanford experience,” Watson recalled this week.
